Festival rehearsals at Warroora Station
I’ve taken hundreds of photos at Warroora Station and each time I try to capture it differently. This year I photographed circus performers at sunset - that was unexpected and definitely gave me the opportunity to photograph Warroora in a different way!
Gascoyne in May is a coordinated circuit of festivals held annually across the region, and the performers were staying at Warroora Station’s Dudley House for a week of rehearsals before the Ningaloo Whale Shark Festival in Exmouth.
Aerial performers Theaker von Ziarno and Jade Mills were the highlights (literally) and Janine Oxenham led the fire performers, all accompanied by the sublime vocals of opera singer Aria Scarlett (goosebumps all round).
Two thirds of Children of the Tide, James Abberley and Downsyde’s Dazastah were also rehearsing at Warroora (Dave Mann was missing in action but making his way up to Exmouth for the show). Their rehearsal was teaser; their performance at Exmouth’s yacht club on the final night was my festival highlight.
