Lives Well Lived, Bruce Rock Part 1
Veronica was the first person I met in Bruce Rock when I took refuge in the craft shop from the torrential downpour. Veronica was behind the counter, crocheting a blanket and up for a chat. I was struck by her energy and how active she is in the community - volunteering in the craft shop, helping out on the local newspaper, and a self-appointed chauffeur for her friends who can no longer drive, she also crochets blankets and makes greetings cards which her son sells in his shop in Alice Springs.
By chance I met Veronica again a couple of days later at the farm where we were camping. She was there with her two friends for their six-weekly hair-dos in De’s home-based hair salon. With their fresh trims and blow-dries it wasn’t too hard to convince the ladies to let me photograph them at their homes later that day.
The three friends now live in the same street as each other in town and spend a lot of time together, but they have vastly different pasts.
Originally from Whitstable in England, Veronica has been in WA for many years now and was a passionate camper and 4wd enthusiast until quite recently. She has a smile that lights up the room and her positive spirit coupled with her faith has carried her through the hardest of times.
