Michaela & Steve {wedding}

This was one of my favourite weddings...ever! Michaela and Steve's big day wasn't about themes and details but about love, and friendships, and laughter. It was a back-to-basics celebration in their own back yard. When I arrived chef Steve was busy in the kitchen ably assisted by Michaela wearing a dressing gown over her wedding dress; rain was threatening and there was no indication as to where the ceremony would be taking place. But somehow, over the next hour, it all came together. Steve was persuaded out of the kitchen and Michaela was persuaded not to go and mingle with the guests before the ceremony.

Surrounded by all their special people (and with the brief downpour doing nothing to dampen spirits), their story was shared including the bit about them bumping into each other several months after they'd first been introduced and Steve not remembering Michaela's name. Reluctant to admit this, he tried many ways of finding it out. It wasn't until they'd been on several dates that Steve finally found out the name of the woman he was already falling in love with when Michaela began a phone conversation with "Hi Steve, it's Michaela". She recalled clearly hearing the relief in his voice as he replied "Oh, Michaela!" Their story was also shared in verse by bush-poet Rob Baddesley - more used to reciting his poems around campfires than during wedding ceremonies.

Celebrant: Wendy Edgeley; Flowers: Julie France; Hair by Karen Wolfe and make-up by Denise Ford, both of Renew Salon; catering by Steve with the crew from the Denmark Hotel.
